What is aircraft retrofitting and why it can save you money

One of the things that we are asked by potential clients interested in the services that Bella Gusta is offering quite frequently is what exactly is aircraft retrofitting and how can it help to save costs. Today I thought it would be a good idea to talk in a little bit more detail just what exactly is aircraft retrofitting.

What is aircraft retrofitting and why it can save you money

Aircraft retrofitting is the process of converting an aircraft that was designed for regular flight into a specialized aircraft that can perform in service of something completely different. In our case we’ve mostly worked on converting regular helicopters, used for regular flight, into firefighting aircraft. This process requires precise weight distribution measurements, some solid engineering and whole lots of man hours spent implementing everything properly.

Money saving aspect of retrofitting aircraft for other tasks from the ones they were originally intended is pretty obvious. Counties can for example reuse retired rescue helicopters, restore and retrofit them in order to use them once again as firefighting aircraft. Instead of purchasing a whole new dedicated helicopter, you can save a lot of money that you’d normally spend on buying new. That’s how aircraft retrofitting can save you money.
